Lighthouse Adventure 2009 ( Day 2 & Day 3 ) by  Steve Milam.
steve'sface  Okay, well here we are. It’s the end of the day on Monday afternoon. I need to let everybody know that the novelty of the Lighthouse Adventure 2009 has now worn off. I’m dirty, I’m cold, and my back hurts from sleeping on the ground. But, in a couple more days, it will be an effort well spent for all the money that we’ve raised. The thing I need to find out, though, about this tent…I seem to have lost the thermostat, and apparently it’s stuck on ‘cold’! So, I’m off to get some more firewood. You guys have a great day! Tomorrow will be my last full day in the woods for the 2009 Lighthouse Adventure!
pondwithice Well yesterday morning I took some pictures and showed how there was a layer of ice around the lower part of this pond. This morning as I look out over the pond, there’s a thin sheet of ice over the entire pond. Won’t be a problem, I’ll still be able to get some water to boil for whatever…but it just shows me that it must have been fairly cold last night. Thank goodness the wind did not blow like it did the first night. The ice wouldn’t be able to form if the wind was blowing. I’ve had a couple of cups of hot apple cider, and am looking for a wooded filet mignon tonight, so I’m off on a hunt to see if I can find me some dinner. I’ll check back with you guys later on. Stay warm! Hey – have I mentioned that whoever developed the forced-air furnace was a genius?!?

Here’s the last shot of Lighthouse 1. I’m hoping that next year this little adventure inspires some other folks to go with me. Possibly we can raise some more money. If nothing goes wrong and I get a chance to stay until 9am tomorrow morning in my little abode there, I will have raised just under $2300 for the Lighthouse, and the James Graham Brown Foundation will match that money dollar-for-dollar, so that’s $4600. Yay!
frozenpond Well the sun is setting. It’s my final evening of the Lighthouse Adventure. The moon is coming up; it’s going to be a full moon tonight and it’s going to be very pretty. I just thought I’d let you guys know…the water was clear of ice when I first came out on my adventure. This picture is of a stick about 2/3 the size of my arm that I threw out into the pond just now. The ice is firm enough that it just lays there on top of it. I’d throw another stick, but it’s too hard to get firewood to waste it! The plan is to stay up as late as I can, because the nights have been particularly difficult for me. I don’t know if it’s the cold or just the adventure or what it is…maybe I’m just a big chicken!
