Lighthouse receives Human Relations Day grant from the Methodist General Board of Church & Society:
The Lighthouse Center received a grant of $20,000. This was one of only five grants given out to organizations in the U.S. and World by the Directors of the United Methodist General Board of Church &  Society. These grants encourage social justice and work with at-risk youth.

UPS just awarded a grant in the amount of $ 11,100 to the " Partners in Learning Program" which includes Every 1 Read, Boys2Men, GED , Workforce  Development, Karate and the Safety Fair.

THE JAMES GRAHAM BROWN FOUNDATION AWARDS LIGHTHOUSE A $268,000 CHALLENGE GRANT

     Lighthouse now in its eleventh year has been at full capacity almost from its beginning.  Dick Beard was asked to Chair a Building Committee to design a building with capacity to tutor/mentor up to 250 “at risk” children.  When The Kentucky Annual Conference UMC found Lighthouse was planning the building they requested that the building also be designed to serve as a “Disaster Relief Center” for Metro Louisville and the State of Kentucky in the event of disasters like the windstorm, ice storm, and for the possible earthquake.  The Building Committee determined the cost for the building would be $997,000.  Jim Sutton was made chair of a Capital Funds committee with Lighthouse Board members from 10 UM Churches in the Louisville District having responsibility to search ways to raise funds.

     By the end of 2008, $461,000 in cash and pledges had been raised.  This left a balance needed of $536,000.  This is where the Brown Foundation stepped in.  Their grant will cover 1/2 of the needed balance.  It also made fund raising easier when people realized their gift would be doubled.  By the end of 2009 we expect that over $100,000 of the matching funds will be raised, with a need to raise an additional $168,000 by the end of 2010 when the grant expires.
