lighthouselogo Lighthouse Adventure 2009
(Follow the adventure with Steve Milam in the wilderness )
One evening while I was watching the Discovery channel, a program really caught my attention. It was called the Alaskan Experience. The show captured the adventures of city slickers who were set in the Alaskan wilderness with minimal training, direction and rations. The goal was to survive for 90 days. I quickly became a follower of this show and soon had the itch to travel to the Alaskan wilderness myself.

When I approached my wife about the possibility of doing the experience with our daughters, she made a comment about my mental state of mind.  The oldest daughter said she would think on it and get back to me ( she never did ). Our middle daughter said to call her back when we were planning the Hawaiian experience. Oh well, another good idea out the door.

Fast forward to the beginning of this year. All Lighthouse board members were challenged to think outside the box, step outside our comfort zones in order to help raise additional funds for the Lighthouse Capital project campaign. Ah, the Alaskan Experience surfaces again with a few minor changes. After much soul searching and with some direction from our Lord above, the Lighthouse Adventure 2009 became a reality. Not Alaska but a wooded area in Bullitt county. Not 3 months but 3 days. Not a group of adventures but for this year, just myself. No prize money or 15 minutes of fame but a chance to do my part in moving the Lighthouse Capital project campaign forward. So starting on Sunday, December 27 at 9:00, I will start the first ever Lighthouse Adventure with only the items that I can carry in my backpack.

If you are reading this, perhaps your would like to follow the adventure. With some helps from cyber professionals, I hope to keep you updated by text, pictures and video on how the adventure is going. Perhaps you would consider becoming a partner in this adventure by sponsoring me for this 3 day trek. The forms and information are close by I'm sure. If nothing else, visit this site between December 27 and 30, for some laughs as to how I'm going to handle the lack of modern conveniences for 72 hours. If you get a chance, please pray with me that it doesn't rain for 3 days straight.

Well I'm off for now, need to start backing my MREs and check those weather reports…..  SHM
